3 YEAR-OLDS

"Bears Class"

The Bears class is an early introduction to school.  For some children, coming to preschool is their first time away from family.  Because of this, our Bears class provides a loving and safe environment where children can be introduced to school routines.

The beginning of the year in the Bears class is spent learning classroom routines such as how to come to the carpet, how to clean up, how to line up, and how to follow directions. Teachers also work with children on recognizing their name and the letters in their names, along with colors, shapes, numbers, days of the week, and counting to ten.  Children also focus on fine motor skills through scooping, pouring, tracing, and cutting.

All teachers offer a thematic curriculum where children can learn age-appropriate skills both academically and socially.  Children are instructed with a mixture of whole-group circle time, small group work time, and free-choice play time.  As part of our curriculum, Bears classes receive lessons from our Science teachers and Fitness teacher.  The Bears also begin to learn about emotions and feelings through our social-emotional learning curriculum called PATHS.  Montgomery Nursery School’s goal is to help children to be well-rounded and prepared for their next steps. Children need to be 3 years of age by September 30.
